Vimeo: Generic Action Trailer

GENERIC trailer-mockup from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

A friend attended a course of Motion Graphics and needed a project to finish it off… So we went out and filmed over an hour of footage to a spec trailer.

There’s some really juicy bits that was left out because of time-constraints so maybe we will be releasing a “red-band” extended trailer in the near future. Especially since this was somewhat rushed…

Now… let’s count the clichés!:)

Melting Silent Ice Origami from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

Taking the Andy Warhol way of just filming sumthin’ and then releasing it and applying it a bit more than with sTATIC…

Well… it’s… one of those things I decided to just freeze, for reasons not yet clear to me to this day still, in containers of water. Now I decided to melt them while filming, then I sped it up (it took about 30minutes to film with boiling water underneath) so it took around 3 minutes of playback. Video was then desaturated to black/white and made to go backwards… looks kindof weird but I guess that was the idea I had back in my mind.

No music on this one, why? don’t want to do another copyright infringement and I am just too lazy right now to do something myself. but I would like to know if you stumble over something that syncs with it… one never knows…;)

Vimeo: At The Movies With…

At the movies with… from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

A weird animation I did for a course almost a year ago.

Done on paper around rotoscope-video-footage, scanned with photoshop, conformed to animatic and soundtrack done in premiere with after effects to a 2k 2:1 cineon master… the master is lost but I do have this SD-quality version that’ll have to do right now.

Vimeo: El Central

El Central from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

Well… since I have been getting comments about on the hv20-forum it I’m starting to upload and gather the HV20-stuff that I shoot on Vimeo…

So this is the first thing I ever did with the camera… Just me and 3 friends doing a standard drug-deal gone wrong / hitman type of thing…

It has some color correction and some obvious digital-fx done to it to up the pulse…

The only thing I didn’t like about the footage at the time was that the on-site-audio was extremely bad and the camera had a tendency to pick up my breathing more than the actual dialog… I was planning on doing some kind of ADR/looping but I guess I’ll save that for a future version where I can clear the songs for distribution…

Oh, and the music is from Macross Plus and MGS3… great soundtracks by the way… get them;)

And a bonus for you who figure out why it’s called El Central… a hint… I’m swedish and know little to nothing about spanish;)

Vimeo: sTATIC

sTATIC from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

Well another oldie… Done after watching a documentary on Andy Warhol where they talked about his work doing stuff like “guys sitting in a sofa for 40 minutes” and the likes… And I thought… Hey, if Warhol can do that… then surely I can do 5 minutes of… ehh… and I looked around… television Static!

So production-wise then… it’s my HV20 in my apartment with only natural lighting… mostly from the tv… and in post I crammed the contrast and made it black and white to give it that typical indie-arthouse look… Oh… and this also features my own very first composing! done on my old Casio keyboard with some weird tweeked out settings on the Strings preset. and in post stretched out to around 60 percent it’s original speed and cleaned up.

so just watch and enjoy…;)

Youtube: Peuff

I’ve just been watching all of those “real” Ufo sightings and remembered I too, not too long ago, made this little thingy just as for laughs…

All it took was a clip from my “spring in piteå” video + a pic of an F-18 + some work in aftereffects coupled with some explosions from detonationfilms and some soundfx layered in with premiere pro…

I know it’s crappy image quality, but I cropped it from the source-video to create some more crazy action in it…

A shorty I did for a short-film-festival at school. Won second prize… it was only 6 contestants though mind you me. 😉

Note by the way that I missspelled the musicmakers… it’s supposed to be GeINOH Yamashiro Shoji…

Just sit back and enjoy the next 3 minutes… or if it isn’t any good in your eyes… tough luck! 😛

Youtube: Spring in Piteå

Well, a short overnight assignment from school resulted in this… The assignment was to experiment with filming various compositions and then explaining the thoughts behind afterwards. I went ahead and edited this toghether of the 30 minutes of material that I recorded.

Disclaimer:

Alltough it has the nightmareish undercurrents, I in real life don’t feel that the factory depicted here (paper-factory called Kappa) are of evil. And papermaking is probably quite enviromentaly frendly. Just so you know my intentions are not to critizise the industry of Kappa. It’s purely for the sake of experimenting with pictures and sound.

The music is the intro of Bless the Child by Nightwish, slowed to 25% speed with pitch keeped.

Shot with Sony PD150 and sometimes with a wideangle lens with camera set to 4:3 and preset outdoor whitebalance. Edited using Premiere Pro to 1.85 widescreen using “tilt-scan” and sometimes obviously crushed some colors with the Levels Tool.

I would described it myself as a cross between David Lynch and Mamoru Oshii’s Angels Egg. If that came across or not I don’t know…

Youtube: Sam Half (Crayonmation)

done for a musicvideo-class over here, took about a week of work and about 270 finnished crayon-drawings, but here it is… 😀 Now me sleep and try to forget ever thinking the idea of animating in crayons…

And no, I do not at all claim to either be the great Johnny Cash (god rest his soul) or any of his managers… I just did this neat little experiment…

Youtube: Action II Last Resort

Low Light Test No Gain with HV20 from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.

Egentligen inget supernytt. 25p 1/50 slutare i TV-mode.

RAoV from Johan Malmsten on Vimeo.
